On to the Next One

Rejection. It’s a big part of this industry; something I face on a weekly (if not daily) basis. But it’s how we deal with it that makes it that little bit easier each time. So what if one person doesn’t want you... the next person might.

My first piece of advice is to never take it personally. This industry is very particular. 9 times out of 10 it could be because you don’t have brown hair, freckles, size 4 feet, tattoos... It’s really that simple and we overthink the obvious and torture ourselves far too much.  It’s certainly NOT because you are ugly or incapable.

I’ve been there. What does that girl have that I don’t? Should I change myself to look like her? I’ve cried enough times but modelling has become so diverse that everyone has their place. Sit tight as you’ll always be right for something.

On average, I would say I get 1/20 auditions I go too. So every time it’s a no.. what do you do? First step- call someone. It’s always better to let it out. A friend, family member, housemate.. taxi driver... it doesn’t matter! In true British style, everyone feels better after a good moan! Secondly- stay active. Many times I have wanted to just crawl into bed and stay there. But power through, sweat it out at the gym and don’t prolong the negativity. Last of all- be kind to yourself. Give yourself praise for all the good things you have done, rather than focusing on the negatives.

Never let a rejection allow you to think less of yourself. If I did that, I would have given up years ago. It’s just a big part of this industry and life in general but it has grown me to the person I am today. I booked my flight to Vietnam after a big rejection last year... turns out that was the best thing I ever done.
